Special Education Advisory Committees (SEACs) play a vital role in the success of special education programs and services in Ontario’s publicly funded schools.
This information program has been developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education to assist SEAC members to undertake the roles and responsibilities ascribed to them by legislation.
References in the training materials to specific legislation, regulations and policies are intended to make the reader aware of these requirements. Readers wishing to use these provisions should refer to the original legislation, regulations and policies for actual wording and for context.

Learning Expectations
Upon completion of the program, each SEAC member will have:
- A general understanding of the history of special education in Ontario;
- An understanding of the role and responsibility of special education partners;
- A clear understanding of SEAC's legislated role and responsibilities;
- An understanding of the legislation and policy direction for special education programs and services; and
- A knowledge of current special education funding policies.
The program consists of five units. Each unit addresses one of the five learning expectations.

Within each unit the highlighted words are links to further information. Simply click on the word and a pop-up window will appear with additional information or you will be taken to a web site that will provide further material.
